Malawi National Football Team Coach Kalisto Pasuwa has beefed up the squad with two more players ahead of the African Nations Championship (Chan) qualifier against Comoros at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) in Lilongwe on Sunday.
The two are Silver Strikers forward Binwell Katinji and Moyale Barracks striker Emmanuel Allan.
Katinji and Allan joined the squad on Wednesday, two days after the arrival of two other midfielders Uchizi Vunga and Chawanagwa Gumbo.
Initially, Pasuwa had named a 27-member squad for the clash.
This comes after the Zimbabwean mentor was criticised for dropping some regulars and top-eight goal scorers in the 2024 TNM Super League.
These include Isaac Kaliati, George Chaomba, Blessings Mwalilino, Promise Kamwendo and Isaac Msiska.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Competitions and Communications Director Gomezgani Zakazaka said Pasuwa had called-up two strikers to replace Kamuzu Barracks’ striker Olson Kanjira.
“We now have 30 players in camp. Only Olson, who did not join camp due to military assignments, [is unavailable],” he said.
The Flames have relocated to Lilongwe after camping at Mpira Technical Centre in Chiwembe Township, Blantyre, for three days. Pasuwa was not readily available for a comment Thursday.
But the former FCB Nyasa Big Bullets mentor said after the draw last week that Comoros were a strong team.
“Comoros are now a force to reckon with in African football. They now have tactically and technically sound players, hence the need for us to prepare in a way that will make us victorious,” he said.
Some of the notable exclusions are defender Stanley Sanudi, goalkeeper Brighton Munthali and midfielder Chimwemwe Idana.
Fam has not given Pasuwa targets in the Chan qualifiers.
He has, however, been tasked to qualify the Flames to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals and also win the Cosafa Cup in two years.
Comoros were expected to arrive in the country Thursday.
They are using BNS as their home ground for the first leg as they do not have approved stadia in their country.
Malawi will host Comoros at the same venue next week.
The overall winner will face South Africa or Egypt in the second round.
