South Africa-based Malawian coach John Maduka’s side, Royal AM, face a potential sale.
This comes at a time South African Revenue Services (Sars) is trying to recover millions of Rands in unpaid taxes.
South African media reported Tuesday that the club, which risks expulsion from the Betway Premiership due to financial constraints, would be sold.
“Recent reports suggest that the Sars curator is engaged in finalising an agreement with a prospective buyer for Royal AM as they aim for the club to be sold or liquidated,” www.goal.com reported.
The club faces a bleak future as it is reported that club owner Shauwn Mkhize owes Sars over R40 million.
Due to financial constraints, the club last played a match on December 29 2024.
According to www.goal.com, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) has ceased granting the club its monthly funding.
But the publication further reported that PSL, led by Irvin Khoza, had been advised to refrain from selling the club immediately to give the Sars’ curator time to find a buyer of the club.
The latest reports mean the future of Maduka and players remains uncertain.
The situation forced players and technical staff to boycott training due to unpaid salaries.
But South African media reported this week that a small group of players has resumed training after they received their salaries.
The curator, who is overseeing the club’s administration, facilitated the payment.
Maduka was not readily available for his comment Tuesday.
Royal AM are bottom of the log table with eight points from 11 matches.
