
The Hockey Association of Malawi (Ham) has intensified its plans to revive the sport after naming new coaching panels for various national teams in order to be competitive on the international scene.
Ham has released new technical panels for men’s and women’s under-21 and 17 teams.
The association’s president Wanthaza Mughogho said they settled for the coaches due to their qualifications.
“The appointments were approved at the board meeting in Blantyre recently. This is to reaffirm our commitment to elevating the standards of hockey in Malawi and achieving international success.
“This experienced and dynamic team brings extensive expertise, a shared vision, and a commitment to nurturing talent, improving performance, and achieving excellence in upcoming competitions. We are confident that this new technical panel will inspire a new era of growth and achievement for Malawi Hockey,” he said.
Ulemu Ngwira has been named men’s under-21 coach, with Martha Nyirenda as an assistant. The team’s technical director would be Benjamin Chaura whereas Lawrence Mwehiwa will work as physiotherapist. Ham has settled for Andrew Mphalo as team manager.
Samuel Umbakwe is the women’s under-21 coach and he will be assisted by Geoffrey Gama. The team’s technical director is Geoffrey Biya, with Sarai Nkhoma Pipe as the physiotherapist. Lilian Kadango has been named team manager.
Ham has appointed Geoffrey Biya as men’s under 17 coach while Levi Kumwenda is the assistant. Leo Chorwe is the team’s technical director while Lawrence Mwehiwa is the physiotherapist. Team manager for the side is Swilanga Padambo.
The national hockey governing body has also named Benjamin Chaura as the women’s under-17 coach, with Kezia Kangulu as assistant. Ham has appointed Rosena Kazembe as the team’s technical director, Sarai Nkhoma Pipe as physiotherapist. Team Manager for the side is Martha Kumwenda.
