Flames trio off to Mazembe

Flames trio off to Mazembe

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers captain Lawrence Chaziya and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets duo of Patrick Mwaungulu and Lanjesi Nkhoma flew out of the country Sunday to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for medical tests.

Once their medicals are completed, the three players are expected to sign contracts with the five-time Caf Champions League winners.

The trio was seen at Kamuzu International Airport en route to DRC Sunday.

Bullets interim Chief Executive Officer Albert Chigoga confirmed that Mwaungulu and Nkhoma, along with Chaziya, departed Sunday.

“We will wait for the medical tests before making further comments,” Chigoga said.

The players will undergo assessments this week as Mazembe resumes training following the off-season break.

Should they pass their trials, the trio will follow in the footsteps of compatriots Joseph Kamwendo and Luka Bruno Milanzie, who previously played for Mazembe.

Reports suggest that the three players may also be loaned to Don Bosco, which is owned by Moises Katumbi’s son.

Bullets, who were eliminated from the 2023 Caf Champions League by Mazembe with a 5-0 aggregate score, are set to face Zambia’s Red Arrows in the first preliminary round of this year’s continental club showpiece, with the winner advancing to play against Mazembe.
