Flames land new kit deal

Flames land new kit deal

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has secured a new technical sponsor for Malawi national football teams’ jerseys and equipment.

This was approved during the association’s first quarterly executive committee meeting held in Lilongwe on February 1 this year.

The association is expected to sign a two-year contract with the new technical sponsor.

The deal is for jerseys and equipment.

“The committee resolved to approve [upon recommendation from Fam competitions and marketing and Fam internal procurement committees] a new technical sponsor for national teams’ jerseys and equipment for two years,” a Fam statement reads.

According to Fam, the new partner would be unveiled soon after contract signing.

“Further, the committee resolved to approve the new Flames and Scorchers jersey to be launched in March 2025,” it reads.

Currently, the association does not have a technical sponsor for national teams’ jerseys and equipment.

The association introduced its own brand, dubbed ‘Moto’, following the expiry of a three-year contract with South African kit manufacturer Sports Apparel Design Institute (Isad) four years ago.

This comes at a time Fam has unveiled Flames new Moto replica jerseys.

The jerseys were unveiled in January this year.

The design for the new replica jerseys is slightly different from previous ones.

The consignment, which arrived in January, comprised three types, namely Moto Authentic, Moto Mild and Moto Standard.

This means the Flames will start using a new kit after signing the deal with the technical sponsor.

Football consultant Felix Ngamanya Sapao said it was a step in the right direction.

“As long as the replicas are affordable to Malawians, it is fine,” Sapao said.

Prior to signing the deal with Isad in 2021, Fam had a contract with Umbro.

Fam also had contracts with reputable international kit suppliers such as Puma and Adidas.
