Former Malawi National Netball Team shooter Linda Magombo-Munthali has declared her interest in vying for the post of vice president for Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) interim committee.
Nam will hold its elective extra-ordinary general meeting (EGM) at Malawi Sun Hotel on Saturday to fill vacant posts in the interim committee.
The former First Choice Tigresses shooter has released her manifesto which aims at making netball great again.
“My vision is to empower communities, women and netball. My mission is to promote grassroots netball, empower women and develop youth through netball while ensuring good governance and transparency,” Magombo-Munthali said.
She said her manifesto is broad, covering grassroots development, women empowerment and coaching and officiating development.
“On grassroots development, I want to promote netball in rural areas, schools and communities to increase participation and talent identification. Then, I will also promote gender equality, empower women and challenge societal norms through netball.
“And on youth development, I will implement initiatives combining netball with life skills training, education and health awareness to support young players’ well-being,” Magombo-Munthali, who finished the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games as third top goal scorer with 225 baskets and 89 percent shooting accuracy, said.
She also has plans to help improve coaching and officiating standards as well as structures to woo sponsors’ confidence by promoting transparency and accountability values.
“I will endeavour to train and certify coaches, umpires and technical officials to improve netball quality and credibility. I will initiate programmes to secure partnerships with local and international organisations to attract funding, resources and expertise.
“Above all, I will engage with local communities, schools and clubs to promote netball, encourage participation and build a strong netball family. Finally, I will ensure transparent decision-making, accountability and effective resource management to restore trust and credibility,” Munthali, who has a Master’s Degree in Development and Resource Economics, said.
