“I give up”, Ras Chikomeni endorses Mutharika

Ras Chikomeni David Chirwa, a presidential aspirant, has endorsed former President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, leader of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), for the upcoming general elections, MIJ Online has learnt.

He said decision comes after he failed to raise the required MK 10 million nomination fee set by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).

Has thrown the towel.

According to Chirwa he has managed to raise MK5 million through a nationwide “big walk” campaign which is short of the required amount.

Speaking with MIJ Online Chirwa said he has therefore endorsed Mutharika because he is confident in his leadership, arguing that the former president has the capacity to revive Malawi’s economy and lift citizens out of poverty.

This is not the first time for Chikomeni to fail to contest in a presidential election as he also failed to do the same in 2019 for similar reasons.

Malawi,is expected to hold generally elections on 16th September,2025 where the citizenry will elect president, members of parliament and ward councillors.

At the moment, about 14 candidates have collected nomination papers for the presidential race.
