EXPECTED TO ARRIVE TOMORROW—Maduka

Flames legends Ernest Mtawali and Peter Mponda have been nominated to skipper the side when they meet their Zambian counterparts in an international friendly match at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday.

Football Legends Association (FLA) Board Chairperson Jim Kalua said leading the legends team was rotational and that they had settled for the pair for the upcoming match.

“We know everyone is capable of leading the team. Every one of them played at the highest level and contributed massively to the country football development in the country.

“However, for this match, we have nominated Mponda and Mtawali,” he said.

Kalua said they expected three foreign country-based legends in Mtawali, John Maduka (both South Africa) and Esau Kanyenda (United Kingdom) to arrive Thursday for the match.

“The three—Maduka, Kanyenda and Mtawali— will arrive on December 26 and it would be a massive boost to the team.

“Right now, they are training with local clubs,” he said.

FLA engaged Football Association of Malawi to facilitate the match through Football Association of Zambia (Faz)

EXPECTED TO ARRIVE TOMORROW—Kanyenda

Both teams are expected to feature a mixture of generational legends.

Flames former playmaker and coach Mtawali, Kanyenda, Joseph Kamwendo, Young Chimodzi Snr, Gilbert Chirwa, James Sangala, Robert Ng’ambi, Fischer Kondowe and Jimmy Zakazaka are expected to be part of the legends squad.

Zambia are expected to bring legends who were part of the historic 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) winning squad.

They include Christopher Katongo, Kalililo Kakonje, Felix Katongo, Clifford Mulenga and Hinjani Himoonde.

The two teams met at David Kaunda Stadium in Chipata, Zambia, with the Chipolopolo Legends beating Malawi 2-1.
