Incorporating physical fitness such as bodybuilding is one of the important activities in the music career because it presents multiple benefits to musicians such as maintaining good posture and stage confidence.
Experts argue that physical fitness does not only help in fighting diseases such as hypertension, but also improves musicians’ voice projection and adds physical attraction to musicians.
Today, a musician cannot just stripe a T-shirt in the middle of the performance on stage unless he or she has some abs, six pack or muscles to show off. Or imagine, showing off a pot belly as if you are some comedian trying to make people laugh.
Watching music videos of some internationally known artists such as 50 Cent, The Game, Harmonize, Wiz Khalifa, Davido and Diamond one is likely to watch well-built dancers with muscles including the main singers. The reason is not just to beautify the music videos but also to keep fit.
Music fan Memory Tambala said physically fit musicians maintain a good statue and weight hence they look attractive.
“Loving music comes in two ways. If you are not into music then you are.attracted to the musician. But for me physical fitness for a musician is a good bet because it makes them look attractive,” Tambala said.
Many years ago Hip Hop artist Kalawe came on the music scene with a powerful video of his single called Dzuka Malawi. The success story of the video was not only based on the beauty of the daring lyrics, but also the intriguing graphics, particularly those of Kalawe’s strong and muscular body which is spiced up with a well-built and dazzling six pack.
As Kalawe raps on the enchanting Hip Hop beat, he flaunts his strong chest coupled with eye-catching six pack which looks good on him.
Somewhere last year, reggae dancehall artist Saint observed a break on social media. He literally stopped posting his pictures on his pages for months but only to emerge later on with a completely transformed body mass. This time around he had built some muscles and big chest.
He said he was hitting the gym to build specific body and posture needed in his videos.
“I needed music videos and live shows with strong and attractive Saint, that’s why I hit the gym to build my body,” said Saint.
He said physical fitness gives him confidence and good postures not only in music videos but also live shows.
“Music requires body activity a lot and physical fitness helps musicians to remain active and attractive be it on stage or music video,” he said.
Videographer Joseph Kacheto said physical fitness helps musicians to perform extraordinarily well in romantic music videos.
According to Kacheto, there are certain romantic roles in music videos that require artists to reveal their body. However, such a body is not any type but specifically with some abs or six-pack to be attractive to viewers.
