By Gift Sitima:

Former governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi Dalitso Kabambe has announced his defection to UTM Party.

Kabambe, who recently left the Democratic progressive Party, was welcomed into the UTM family in Masambanjati, Traditional Authority Changata, in Thyolo District.

In his speech, Kabambe said he had decided to join UTM in exercise of the constitutional provision on freedom of association.

He also cited the UTM manifesto as one of the enticing factors.

“After evaluating various party constitutions and manifestos, we see that UTM is the only party that has the best vision for this country,” Kabambe said.

He expressed disappointment with other parties, saying they have failed to deliver on their promises to Malawians.

Kabambe urged citizens to give UTM a chance to govern the country.

“I join the party as an ordinary member and I will abide by rules of the party and respect our leaders,” he said, thanking the UTM executive team for according him what he described as a warm welcome.

He said this shows that the party stands for love and peace.

Patricia Kaliati

On her part, UTM secretary general Patricia Kaliati said new members are welcome to the party.

“We are multiplying and we will keep adding the numbers. The seed that our late president [Dr Saulos Klaus Chilima] left ndi yamapasa; timangochulukana. Zipani zinazo zinapatsidwa kulera; ife ayi [the founder of the party left a fertile seed that keeps multiplying while other parties are stagnating],” Kaliati said

She emphasised that the party’s doors are open to all who wish to join it.

“It is important that the Executive team should be embracing newcomers, ensuring the party’s continued growth,” she said.

On his part, UTM publicity secretary Felix Njawala echoed Kaliati’s sentiments, saying the coming of Kabambe is good news to all party members as it symbolises the growth of the party.

Kabambe joined UTM with 300 members from other parties.
