The Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) has expressed excitement with the response to this year’s Malawi Sport Awards ceremony slated for Sunbird Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi District on Friday.
MNCS Director of Planning, Marketing and Infrastructure Development Limbani Matola, speaking during a panel discussion on Times TV on Monday evening, said 14 organisations had partnered the council to ensure that the awards are a success.
“The response has been overwhelming, with over 14 organisations partnering us. This shows that the organisations have confidence in us and the process.
“In terms of guests, we are oversubscribed and it is upon invitation. However, the nation should not despair because they will follow the proceedings on three local media houses including Times TV and their other platforms [radio and Times360 Facebook page (livestream)],” he said.
Matola, who was flanked by MNCS Director of Sports and Recreation Development Ivy Chinangwa and Judge Chifundo Tenthani, said they settled for Nkopola Lodge to give the awards a new face.
“As one way of promoting tourism, we decided against holding the awards in Blantyre and Lilongwe as most organisations do. We thus decided to move to Mangochi to promote the awards,” Matola said.
On his part, Tenthani said the awards were merit-based, with judges contributing 70 percent and the public 30 on the nominees.
“We were scrutinising the nominees according to their achievements in 2024. The method is transparent and independent auditors will verify,” Tenthani said.
Meanwhile, voting for the nominees closed Tuesday.
