Chitoliro Productionz, organisers of the Urban Music People (UMP) Festival, have, through Chitoliro, signed afro-fusion and dancehall musician Cretik.
Chitoliro Project Manager Andrew Macheso, better known as DJ Bad Up Skillz, said on Monday they had signed Cretik after being impressed by his music.
“He is talented and passionate about music and, on top of that, he is a hard worker. We thought we should work with him as part of raising his talent but also building our label,” Macheso said.
He said the deal would also allow Cretik to make his mark on the local and international music scene.
A graduate of the Malawi University of Science and Technology, Cretik, real name Samson Chidobvu, who is also a producer, said securing the deal with Chitoliro would elevate the quality of his music.
“I am happy with this because it will help open doors to opportunities,” Cretik said.
Chitoliro Productionz says, in a statement, that it will work with other musicians who performed well in the College Cypher Awards.
The record label also says apart from signing artists, it is introducing Chito Sealz, a music collective designed to bring together a diverse range of voices and sounds.
The statement says that Chito Sealz has already made headway with its upcoming release ‘Anamwali’, featuring gospel music giants Ethel Kamwendo Banda and Ndirande Anglican Voices.
