Top police official, Casper Chalera, was laid to rest Friday at his Matako Village in Senior Chief Lukwa’s area in Kasungu District. Until his death on Wednesday, Chalera was Deputy Director of Police responsible for Operations.
Among those who paid their tributes at the burial ceremony include Malawi Congress Party Central Region chairman, Zebron Chilondola, who represented President Lazarus Chakwera, National Police spokesperson Peter Kalaya and Senior Chief Lukwa. Born on June 3, 1965, Chalera joined Malawi Police Service in 1988.
He rose through the ranks to become Deputy Inspector of Police in 2022. He is survived by a wife and three daughters
