CAR opts for BNS for Junior Scorchers clash

Central African Republic (CAR) has inquired on the possibility of using Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe as their home ground for 2026 Fifa Under-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Malawi next month.

This comes as Central African country does not have an approved facility to host international matches.

The junior Scorchers will host CAR between May 11 and 12 at BNS before a return leg a week later at the same venue subject to confirmation.

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Competitions and Communications Director Gomezgani Zakazaka confirmed receipt of the request from their Central African counterparts.

“We responded to their request. But we are waiting for their official confirmation,” Zakazaka said.

Malawi is expected to start preparations for the qualifiers soon.

The winner between Malawi and Central African Republic will face South Sudan or Djibouti in the second round.

Since it was opened in 2017, several countries have used BNS as their home ground.

Recently, Comoros used the facility as their home ground for the 2025 African Nations Championship (Chan) qualifier against the Flames which they lost 2-0.

Malawi advanced to the second round after beating Comoros by the same margin in the second leg. Last year, Burundi also used BNS as their home ground for their 2026 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier against Senegal.

Ethiopia also used it for the Afcon qualifier against Egypt in 2022.
