Caf African Schools tourney draw Monday

The  will know their opponents in this year’s Caf African Schools Championship when the draw is conducted in AMalawi Schools Girls National Football Teamccra, Ghana, today.

The team arrived in Accra, Ghana, yesterday ahead of the tournament, scheduled to kick off on Wednesday at University of Ghana Stadium.

Malawi, alongside seven other countries, will be split into two groups of four teams each.

Hosts Ghana, Benin, South Africa, DRC, Morocco, Uganda, Gambia and Malawi qualified for the finals in the girls’ category.

Before departure on Saturday, Malawi Girls Team Coach Bridget Chirwa said her target was to guide the team to the final of the competition.

“We are going to Ghana to compete and our target is to reach the final,” Chirwa said.

Chirwa said the team was ready to face any team during the competition.

“We had good preparations and are ready for any challenge,” she said.

On her part, Malawi captain Ethel Tambala said it was an opportunity for the players to showcase their skills and talent.

“We believe we can do well. As players, this is our chance to prove that we are also good. We will work hard during the tournament,” she said.

The girls’ team qualified for African Schools Championship finals after finishing as runners-up to South Africa in Namibia last year.

Hosts Ghana, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Uganda, Tanzania, South Africa, Senegal and DRC qualified for the finals in boys’ category.
