Battered teams seek redemption

The 2025 TNM Super League enters week two as two matches have been lined up this afternoon.

But both matches involve teams that have had a bad start to the season last week.

Defending champions Silver Strikers have a tricky tie against Chitipa United at Karonga Stadium this afternoon.

Silver lost 1-0 to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe whereas Chitipa lost by a similar margin to Mafco at Chitowe Stadium.

On paper, Silver are favourites to win the match but Chitipa have what it takes to stop them.

In the last seven matches, Silver have won three, three draws and lost once.

Chitipa’s only win against Silver came when they defeated them 1-0 in 2019.

Last season, Silver defeated Chitipa 2-0 in the first round before a 1-1 stalemate in the second round.

Silver coach Peter Mgangira told his charges to double their efforts against Chitipa.

“It is a tricky match so we need to be on top of our game. The players are aware of the importance of the match,” he said.

Silver looked shaky at the back against Bullets in the opening match.

They have failed to keep a clean sheet in two matches after they conceded two goals against Mighty Wanderers in the 2025 NBS Bank Charity Shield.

Chitipa Coach Kondwani Ikwanga said his team would not be intimidated facing Silver.

“We know they will come hard on us but we are prepared for them,” Ikwanga said.

Elsewhere, Blue Eagles and Songwe United will also be looking for their first win of the campaign having lost their opening matches.

Eagles lost 3-1 to Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre whereas Songwe made their debut in the league with a 1-0 loss to Moyale Barracks at Karonga Stadium.

A total of 19 goals in the opening week of the league.

Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos registered the highest win after beating Creck Sporting 4-1 at Champion Stadium.

Dynamos top the log table on goal difference.
