National Football Coaches Association (NFCA) Chairperson Aubrey Nankhuni has extended an olive branch to his opponents in elections that took place in Salima District on Saturday.
In the highly-contested polls, Nankhuni defeated Audrow Makonyola 13-11 to retain the hot seat while McNebert Kazuwa is vice chairperson after beating Moses Chimbetete by the same number of votes.
Sulivian Kandulu triumphed in the race for the position of general secretary, edging Kondwa Ikwanga 13-11, while Millias Pofera is vice general secretary, having thrashed Patrick Cheruwa 17-7.
Former NFCA general secretary Dave Mpima is now treasurer general after beating Macmillan Maziya by 13 to 11 votes whereas Rabson Ntonga beat Trevor Kajawa 14-9 to take up the post of vice treasurer general.
Nankhuni said he appreciated the great ideas that his opponents had and wanted them to be implemented as well.
“This is not a one-man show.
We are all working towards fulfilling the ‘transforming the game’ agenda of Football Association of Malawi [Fam] President Fleetwood Haiya. So I want to take on board all the ideas that my opponents had and see how we can implement them together,” he said.
Nankhuni said he would be meeting Haiya soon to map the way forward on what NFCA wants to achieve.
Fam First Vice President Madalitso Kuyera said the elections were conducted in a peaceful manner.
“We had a very conducive atmosphere for a free and fair poll. Before these elections, we spared some time and sat down with the coaches’ body to iron out several anomalies that were there in the conduct of such polls. So everything has gone according to plan and there are no issues,” Kuyera said.
He then called on the coaches to forget what divided them during the elections and work together for the good of the game.
