Artists light MO626 Intercollege Show

Established and up-and-coming musicians showcased unity of purpose at the MO626 Intercollege Music Show held at Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (Mubas) in Blantyre.

The music show, which stretched to the early hours of Sunday, turned out to be the crescendo of fun at the Social Weekend event.

Hosted by MC Sambwita, a graduate from Mubas, the music show gave the audience a treat all night, with up-and-coming musicians warming the stage before renowned artists took over.

On the night, some patrons walked away with National Bank of Malawi branded t-shirts for prevailing in dance challenges.

Other winners answered questions correctly in connection with MO626 services.

The budding artists came from Mubas and other universities.

All the routines on the night saw performing musicians being backed by DJs on set.

Malawi University of Science and Technology (Must) graduate Sean Morgan, famed for the track ‘Ndidzagenda’, also performed at the music show.

However, a special moment that attracted cheers from the audience was when the reggae and dancehall artist, who dressed decently in a black suit, invited Sangie to the stage for a collaboration.

Award-winning musician Onesimus was also on the menu and his entry in the early hours of yesterday, namely the romantic track ‘Controller’, had the audience singing along.

Members of the audience sang along to almost all the songs the offered, including his latest love track ‘Tabwera’.

Backed by DJ Gene on the decks, there was even a moment when the artist, popularly known as African Butter, took people down memory lane, dishing out the song ‘Ndamusowa’, which he released when he was known as Armstrong Kalua.

“I am what I am because of you. I have won awards because of you and ‘Tabwera’ is doing well because you continue supporting me,” the artist, who wore a jean short, said.

The artist hailed organisers and NBM for supporting the music show.

Onesimus took over the stage soon after a performance of Slyc of the ‘Mwapanga Dala’ fame.

All the songs Slyc offered, including ‘Akunama’, resonated well with members of the audience.

DJ Mighty Virus, who is also a graduate from Mubas, had his share, showcasing his skills on the decks.
