Limbe Muslim Jamaat (LMJ) has distributed Ramadan food packs to 1,100 households in Chiradzulu District.

This follows the citing of the new moon of Ramadan on Saturday, March 1, with Muslims starting fasting on Sunday.

Muslims will be observing fasting and prayers for 30 days.

Speaking at the distribution event at Chiradzulu Secondary School, LMJ Public Relations Officer Ibrahim Omar said sharing was key to the month of Ramadan.

“I encourage Muslims to give generously, as charity is a fundamental aspect of Islam. There are a lot of benefits and rewards in giving. Let us try to give others something because we know that everybody is suffering, and whatever little we have can make a difference,” he said.

His sentiments were echoed by Muhammed Jabbar, one of LMJ’s members, who further called on Muslims to be selfless.

“This is the time we get closer to Allah,” he said.

One of the beneficiaries, Freda Chilungo from Kanyenda Village, said the items would assist members of her family, which is struggling with hunger.

“May Allah reward all those who made this donation possible,” Chilungo said.

LMJ is targeting 11,000 families with food packs, which contain 10-kilogramme bags of maize flour, beans, sugar, salt and packets of soya pieces.
