On the first day of the month of March, students at Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (Mubas) put aside their academic work to have fun during what they dubbed ‘Social Weekend’.
Joined by students from other universities and people from the commercial city of Blantyre, the Social Weekend, supported by National Bank of Malawi (NBM) through its MO626 service, lived up to its billing.
It was party time from the word go as students showcased funny attire, with some gents clad in ladies’ outfits such as wigs, dresses, high-heeled shoes as well as make-up.
Some female students wore gowns, fantasising pregnancy and other things that happen in the course of people’s lives.
It was more like a Halloween party for some students, as they painted their faces, with others putting on facemasks.
“We need to have fun at times even if we are here for studies. Life has to be balanced and entertainment is part of it,” an engineering student who only identified himself as King, said.
For some students, it was time to make a kill as they mounted stalls at which they sold alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages as well as food.
The audience sang along to most of the songs that were served by a DJ and, in some instances, the students sang in unison to songs that presented Mubas as a university above the rest in the country.
NBM took advantage of the event to encourage students to open accounts with it.
