Press Corporation Limited (PCL) has indicated that efforts to establish a 50 megawatts (mw) solar power plant are at an advanced stage.
This came out during a stakeholders’ meeting in Blantyre on Monday.
PCL Board Chairperson Radson Mwadiwa said the company has secured land at Nkhoma in Lilongwe and is finalising talks with the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (Mera).
“We have already gotten approvals from Escom and we are waiting to get approval from Mera. We are discussing with some stakeholders and partners that we will work with to bring in technical know-how,” Mwadiwa said.
Addressing the meeting, PCL Chief Executive Officer Ronald Mangani said the conglomerate is also considering investing in other sectors such as agriculture and mining.
“We have sourced over 1,000 hectares of land to produce soya which will be one of our major investments as we will be processing soya milk. We also plan to invest in sugarcane farming,” Mangani said.
One of the PCL shareholders, Brian Kampanje, said he is happy with how the company is handling its affairs.
“I am so happy to have the report on how the conglomerate is handling its businesses, especially on the plans to venture in the energy sector. I am also happy to know that management is planning to remove poor performing subsidiaries,” Kampanje said.
