Transformation needs action, Sparc MD says

Local information and communication technology services provider Sparc Systems Limited Managing Director Wisely Phiri has reiterated a call for innovation and action-oriented approach to running businesses if the country is to make economic headways.

Phiri was awarded the Most Inspiring Male Corporate Leader Award in Consumer Choice Awards at Sunbird Lilongwe last weekend.

“Just do it. The world has enough talkers; we need doers. We need people who envision and take the first step. We are leaders of today and let us go for it and show how it is supposed to be done. But you have to work for that success,” Phiri said.

He added that he felt humbled to have been voted the best in the category.

“Maybe they [consumers] are better placed to explain as to how I inspire them the most. But I think some of the reasons might be to do with how I have run Sparc, taking it from a small startup I created to where we are now operating across Africa and inspiring my team to greater heights.

“I have designed and implemented strategies that have helped us to be where we are today. We are creating a number of innovations that are helping in a number of ways not only in Malawi but across Africa.

“I also created an education department within Sparc which has been training a number of entities and individuals and also promoting girls in [science, technology, engineering or mathematics, among others. I have also been involved in a number of charitable works,” Phiri said.

He then urged private-sector players to keep learning and remain vigilant in contributing towards national growth.

“Integrity, dedication and perseverance remain key. It has not been easy but with dedication and perseverance I have reached where I am today,” he said.

Consumer Choice Awards Africa Managing Director Diana Laizer said the awards were a platform for companies and businesses in Malawi and a roadmap to the main summit, the Consumer Choice Awards Africa.

She said the top three winners in each category stand a chance to compete in the regional level leading to overall winners across Africa.
