Lawyer and football administrator Sunduzwayo Madise has been maintained as Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) Board Chairperson.
The appointment is with effect from April 5, 2025.
This will be Madise’s third term, having served two successive terms.
In reaction to his reappointment, Madise, who is also University of Malawi Deputy Vice Chancellor, said he was humbled.
“Being appointed to chair any public institution is a tremendous responsibility, as the public rightly holds high expectations of us.
“Sports, however, is particularly unique in that it touches the lives of many [people]—whether as participants, spectators or passionate supporters. It cuts across political, religious, cultural and social divides, uniting people in a powerful way,” Madise said.
Madise’s previous term expired in November last year.
Charles Ulaya has also been maintained as vice chairperson.
Other members in the board include former Chess Association of Malawi president Susan Namangale, Chigomezgo Kimberly Nyasulu, Alufeyo Chipanga and Dabwitso Hara.
Proud Chalira, Levie Nkunika, Marthayoshi Katangwe and Thumbiko Kamungawatema Mhango are other board members.
Sports analyst Parry Chinyama said Madise was the right person for the job.
“Maybe the government wants to maintain institutional memory. Of course, Madise has tried during his tenure of office to ensure that affiliates follow guidelines as per requirement,” Chinyama said.
During his second term, Madise introduced guidelines for sports associations to enhance efficiency.
