Malawi Women’s National Football Team star Temwa Chawinga has attributed her impressive record in her debut season at Kansas City Current to the good environment at the club.

The 26-year-old has smashed several records in her debut season in the National Women’s Super League (NWSL) this year.

On Saturday, Temwa set another record when she became the first player in the NWSL to score against all the 13 teams in a single season after netting her 20th goal of the campaign.

She scored in Kansas’ 4-1 victory over San Diego Wave FC at CPKC Stadium.

This comes just one week after she broke NWSL goal scoring-record with an astonishing 19 goals.

Sam Kerr had the most goals of 18 in a single season while playing for Chicago Red Star in 2019.

Temwa said her incredible record is due to teamwork.

“It is not about me but the team I am in. Setting or breaking the records flow in the team and I just tap from it,” she wrote on her Facebook page.

The latest record means Temwa has added to a host of her records in the US.

This season, she set a new record after scoring in eight consecutive games and has also scored 13 goals at CPKC Stadium, the most by a player at home.

The Malawian was also the first player to shoot the ball into a river.

Football Association of Malawi President Fleetwood Haiya hailed Temwa’s exploits in the US.

“She continues to make us proud on the global stage, showcasing the immense talent that our nation has to offer,” Haiya said.

The Malawian forward is the favourite to win the NWSL Golden Boot Award as she is seven goals above Zambian Barbara Banda of Orlando Pride.

She has 20 goals and six assists in the current campaign, which means she has been directly involved in 26 goals for Kansas City.

The win over Waves means Kansas have tied the record for goals scored in a regular season.

Kansas are also the first club to sell out every home game in one regular season.

Temwa also had an incredible season last year after she was named the world’s top goal scorer with 63 goals for club and country.
