The draw for the 2024 Beach Soccer National Championship has set up some exciting fixtures for the tournament, which is scheduled to run from this Saturday to Sunday at Livingstonia Beach in Salima District.
The draw for the tournament, which will feature six teams, was conducted at Silver Club House in Lilongwe on Monday.
Defending champions Beach Eagles have been drawn in Group B alongside Central Region side Tourism and Black Eagles from Nkhata Bay.
Group A comprises Deep Bay from Karonga, Vinthenga from Nkhotakota and Southern Region representative Nyasa.
Beach Eagles have won the competition for two consecutive editions.
Surely, every team seeks to end their dominance this weekend.
That sets up an exciting tournament this weekend. Additionally, there is a lot to play for in this year’s Beach Soccer National Championship as the prize money has been increased.
Beach Soccer Association (BSA) General Secretary Frank Chisambula said the increase in prize money had added flavour to the tournament.
“With the increase in prize money, we expect a highly competitive tournament. Every team will be fighting hard to get the top prize,” Chisambula said.
The tournament would be a good opportunity for Malawi Beach Soccer National Team coach Willy Kumilambe to select players ahead of this year’s Cosafa Beach Soccer Championship later this year.
Kumilambe said he was hoping to select the best players for the team.
“We need to select players for the national team based on merit. As such, the competition is very important,” Kumilambe said.
