About 16 people have been injured following stormy rains that fell in Mangochi on Tuesday.
Mangochi District Council officials say traditional authorities (TAs) Mponda, Mapila, Chimwala and Ntonda are the most affected.
The council’s spokesperson Bishop Witmos said the rains had displaced over 367 people, who are in need of shelter.
“In total, the rains have affected 2,313 households and the people are in need of relief food, plastic papers for roofing and household utensils.
“In addition to that, the rains have damaged electric polls, which affected electricity supply in Mangochi District for about 18 hours,” Witmos said.
He added that the rains had damaged public structures such as Mpondasi Primary School, Nansenga Extension Planning Area staff houses and an administration block, among others.
Meanwhile, TA Mapila has said they have not been assisted in any way.
“We are waiting for the authorities to provide the required support,” Mapila said.
