Spyral no more

Award-winning youthful musician and graphic designer Spyral, real name Kennedy Mwenya, is no more.

His close friend and fellow musician Tsar Leo confirmed of Spyral’s death on Tuesday afternoon.

“I can confirm that Spyral is no more. He died this afternoon (Tuesday afternoon) at Mzuzu Central Hospital,” Tsar Leo said.

He said Spyral was involved in an accident on his return from a funeral which he went to attend for his aunt in Rumphi District before being admitted at Mzuzu Central Hospital.

“He was recovering only to lose him this afternoon. He was so talented and his death is a blow,” Tsar Leo said.

As we went to press on Tuesday, Tsar Leo said information was still not yet ready as regards to the burial.

Several artists mourned Spyral describing his death as a huge blow to the creative industry.

“We have lost a great artist and graphic designer,” Akometsi, an outfit that manages artists such as Emmie Deebo wrote on its page.

Phyzix also described the death of Spyral as a huge blow to the industry.

“He was talented and full of vibe. He was talented as a musician and graphic designer. I have known him since 2007, he was so passionate about what he was doing,” Phyzix, who is also Musicians Union of Malawi (Mum) Southern chapter chairperson, said.

Mum President Vita Chirwa said the music body is deeply saddened with the death of Spyral.

“His creativity and passion were truly inspiring. He will be missed in the industry and will always be remembered for his unique creativity. This is a profound loss to his family, music family, fans and everyone, who knew him,” Chirwa said.

The artist has made waves in the industry from 2016.

He was also a member of the Proud duo and managed to make a name for himself and maintain it over the years.

In 2021, he dropped his hip hop project titled High Hopes.
