Malawi Women’s National Football Team striker Sabina Thom is confident that her move to Georgia club WFC Lanchkhuti is a big step in her football career.
This comes after the Malawian penned a two-year contract with the club following her departure from Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) side TP Mazembe last month.
“It is a dream come true to join the club. I hope I will advance my football career,” Thom said.
Thom, who is in the country, is expected to travel to Georgia after the upcoming Fifa Women’s International Window next month.
The Georgian club has beaten a host of clubs who were interested in the signature of the talented forward.
“I am ready for the new challenge. I know it will not be easy but I am prepared for it,” she said.
Prior to her move to Georgia, Thom was linked with Moroccan side Club des Jeunesses Ait Jazza.
But the deal did not go through after Mazembe refused to release her as she had a running contract.
Scorchers coach Lovemore Fazili said he was happy with Thom’s exploits.
“I am really happy with what she has achieved. It shows that we are taking the right direction,” Fazili said.
Thom was also linked with a move to Tanzania side Young African Sports (Yanga) and her former club Simba Sporting Club.
She is a versatile player as she can play as winger and striker.
Her attributes include scoring goals and dribbling.
Apart from Thom, Malawi has Chawinga sisters Tabitha and Temwa abroad.
Tabitha plays for Olympique Lyonnais whereas Temwa is with Kansas City Current.
Another Malawian Rose Kabzere is at Montpellier Women in France.
