National Youth Football Association (NYFA) Chairperson Tiyenkhu Chavula has described himself as ambitious.
He said, as part of his ambitious plans, he would secure sponsorship to enable the body to be producing talented players for junior national teams.
Chavula made the remarks after he retained the position unopposed during the body’s polls in Mponela, Dowa District, on Saturday.
“Youth football is at the centre of Transforming the Game [agenda]. The Fam president [Fleetwood Haiya]’s vision is for the junior teams to qualify for major tournaments.
“We are assured of resources and all the necessary support from Fam and its leadership. Our role is to make it happen. We are dreaming of qualifying for the 2027 Fifa Under-17 World Cup in Qatar,” Chavula said.
He said the body was determined to produce youngsters for local and international markets.
“Our efforts shall focus on securing partners to support our initiatives to bring talented players in our leagues in the limelight. As part of the player export strategy, we have a number of initiatives lined up that will help accelerate their development and we also want to create opportunities for such talent to be spotted by local as well as foreign teams.
“Our goal is, firstly, make sure that these talented boys are ready for junior national teams. We shall raise the standards by improving our competition rules and regulations and strictly enforcing them,” he said.
