FCB Nyasa Big Bullets former captain Precious Sambani has gone absent without leave (Awol) for the second time in a space of three months.
The left back is said to have stopped training after Bullets beat Kamuzu Barracks in the semi-final of the 2024 Airtel Top 8 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe three weeks ago.
Bullets Chief Executive Officer Albert Chigoga confirmed that Sambani stopped reporting for training.
“It is true that he is not reporting for training. He called that he would come to office two weeks ago but he did not. He is one of the senior players in the team and we do not expect him to behave like that,” Chigoga said.
Sambani also went Awol in August this year immediately after Bullets defeated Mighty Mukuru Wanderers 2-1 in the FDH Bank Cup.
However, he was welcomed back into the team’s fold.
“At first, he showed remorse. He promised that he would not do that again. But let me not pre-empt what will happen because he knows what is in the contract,” Chigoga said.
Sambani has already missed four consecutive matches for Bullets in all competitions.
He did feature in the 1-0 victory over Silver Strikers in the Airtel Top 8 final and the 5-0 win over Changalume Barracks in the Castel Challenge Cup.
Sambani also missed the goalless stalemate with Silver in the TNM Super League and Wednesday’s match against Civil Service United.
However, the former Wanderers left back was not readily available for his comment Wednesday.
Initially, Sambani went awol after the club removed him as captain and opted for Gomezgani Chirwa.
Sports analyst Parry Chinyama said, if not careful, Sambani could destroy his football career.
“He needs to seriously think about his career,” Chinyama said.
Sambani will likely struggle to regain his place following the return of Alick Lungu.
Apart from Sambani and Lungu, Bullets have youngster Chrispin Mapemba as left back.
