Piano Fest on the cards

After hosting a number of successful events recently including a college outing, Nyasa Music Group is back into the flame with another event dubbed Piano Festival.

Nyasa Music Group, led by James Makunje, has partnered with Beerland Festival to bring Piano Festival next month when it is set to feature local artists and an artist from South Africa.

Piano Festival will be held at Moneymen Club in Blantyre on November 16 2024, headlined by South African artist Leemckrazy.

Makunje, a former manager for musician Patience Namadingo and is now part of the Zeze Kingston brand, said yesterday that piano is a South African music genre that has taken the continent by storm, hence bringing a South African act once again.

“It is not just music but it is a movement that brings people together through vibrant beats, dance and culture. Malawi has a rich history of embracing diverse sounds and we believe this fest who love high energy performances and afro-beat influences,” he said.

On event organisers focusing their attention on South African acts and not elsewhere, Makunje said the Rainbow Nation has been a hub for groundbreaking music and that amapiano has become a massive force there.

“Bringing South African artists allows us to showcase the roots of this sound and create an authentic experience. We are excited to host some of the top names in the genre, promising performances that are fresh, engaging and representative of where African music is headed,” Makunje said.

He said they have settled for Leemckrazy because he is currently the top amapiano artist in South Africa and that he is taking the industry by storm.

“We are aiming to set a new standard for live events in Malawi. Fans can expect a night of top tier music, an unforgettable atmosphere and a chance to connect with this dynamic genre on a personal level,” Makunje said.
