Paragon Arts on Wednesday treated theatre lovers to a play titled Shattered Silence at Madsoc Theatre in Lilongwe.
The play, which tackles sexual reproductive health issues, is part of Paragon Arts’ Post Abortion Care awareness campaign.
The interactive production got a warm reception from the audience with renowned actors such as Mphatso Machira and Edwin Chonde putting up impressive performances.
Some of the members of the cast also participated in a training that Paragon Arts held.
The performance also attracted the presence of opinion players, including police officers, medical practitioners and religious leaders, who engaged in discussions after the production.
Renowned poet Q Malewezi, who was a special guest at the event, hailed the initiative, saying that theatre plays a vital role in addressing important issues.
Malewezi, who is special advisor to President Lazarus Chakwera on creative industries, also performed his poem titled ‘People.’
“This is a great way to tackle abortion care issues, as people love stories. Looking at this event, it is clear that we can advocate for this in our communities,” Malewezi said.
Paragon Arts Director Philmon Kuipa said policy makers’ attendance at the event could potentially pave the way for reforms on handling abortion care issues.
“I appreciate the contributions from the audience and policymakers, who asked questions related to abortion care after the performance,” Kuipa said.
He said they have plans to extend the initiative to other areas across the country.
Paragon Arts launched the Post Abortion Care project in November last year.
