This is the fourth successive NBS Bank plc has reaffirmed its support for the Charity Shield after increasing the sponsorship package to K60 million from K40 million, up by 50 percent.
This is the fourth successive year for NBS Bank to be supporting the seasonal opener, much to the delight of Football Association of Malawi (Fam) officials and the football fraternity.
NBS Bank Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Temwani Simwaka said the event had become more than just a Charity Shield match.
“In 2024, we raised K43 million and, across three years, [the] Charity Shield has raised over K83 million which has impacted the lives of people in different ways in the country. We are looking forward to another good one this year,” Simwaka said.
Simwaka said NBS Bank believed in going beyond banking, hence showing up for communities.
“That is why this year, under the theme ‘We Care A Little More’, we are reaffirming our commitment to the people of Malawi not just through words but action,” she said.
Fam President Fleetwood Haiya hailed NBS Bank’s support, describing the firm as a true football development partner.
“It is with great excitement to see NBS Bank increasing the sponsorship [package] for the Charity Shield. Football is a tool for development that impacts the lives of people who follow football and those who play football.
“I am proud that the new partnership, signed in 2024 for three years, uses football as a tool for positive change. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the leadership of NBS Bank for their unwavering support and commitment, even in these challenging economic times,” Haiya said.
This year’s Charity Shield will attract Silver Strikers and Mighty Wanderers at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe after the six-time winners FCB Nyasa Big Bullets missed out on qualification.
