Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) has given Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) the go-ahead to host the 2025 Africa Netball Championship.
The approval comes two months after the country was chosen as host for the 2025 edition.
MNCS Chief Executive Officer Henry Kamata said they gave Nam the greenlight to host the tournament last week.

“I can confirm that the government, through MNCS, gave Nam the go-ahead to host the Africa Netball Cup. Nam requested for no objection, which we have gladly granted,” Kamata said.
Kamata could not disclose how much would be required for the country to host the tournament.
“At this point, there is nothing like [a] funding request. The budget for the same will be known after the national budget is approved in Parliament,” he said.
Netball Africa is yet to announce dates for the competition.
On her part, Nam General Secretary Yamikani Khunga-Kauma confirmed receipt of a letter of guarantee from the government on the matter.
“We are happy that we got no objection from government. We will formally write Africa Netball on the matter by the end of this week,” Khunga-Kauma said.
During the 2024 edition held in Namibia, the Queens finished fourth following a 48-42 loss to Zimbabwe.
The Africa Netball Championship is expected to take place at the Griffin Saenda Sports Complex in Lilongwe.
However, the facility requires an extra K7 billion to be completed despite hosting Africa Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Games in 2022.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports has also assured Nam that the facility would be completed in time to host the games.
In 2022, Malawi hosted the Confederation of Southern Africa Netball Association Tri-Nations matches at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences Sports Complex in Blantyre.
