Musicians Lulu, Gwamba, Lawi, Kell Kay and Temwah have teamed up to organise a concert aimed at raising funds to support fellow musician Tay Grin.
Tay Grin, popularly known as Nyau King, recently lost property following a fire accident in his room.
The concert, dubbed From the Ashes, will be held at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe on April 5.
Lawi, maker of songs such as ‘Therere’ and ‘Amaona Kuchedwa’, said on Sunday that they thought it wise to come together and support their colleague.
“I approached my fellow musicians on having a concert to support our colleague Tay Grin. We cannot manage to replace what he lost but we just thought we can raise something,” the singer and guitarist said.
Lawi said the list of performers also includes veteran musician Giddes Chalamanda, who recently called upon organisers to utilise him as he was now in good health after being discharged from hospital.
He said the venue for the concert had been given out free of charge by the owners as part of supporting the cause.
Musicians Union of Malawi (Mum) President Vita Chirwa stressed the importance of supporting one another in the creative industry.
“We, as Mum, are happy for them because a friend in need is a friend indeed. Being there for each other is very important, and this is our goal.
I encourage musicians to continue supporting each other. The concert is a very welcome development,” Chirwa, who is also the leader of the Kalimba Band, said.
