Mighty Wanderers have said they are satisfied with the current squad after signing five players ahead of the forthcoming football season.
This comes two days after, on Friday last week, the club signed striker Blessings Mwalilino from Karonga United on a three-year contract.
Apart from Mwalilino, Wanderers have signed goalkeeper Chancy Mtete from Mzuzu City Hammers, defender Masiya Manda from Civil Service United, midfielder Nanison Mbewe from Karonga and striker Promise Kamwendo from Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos.
Wanderers Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Panganeni Ndovi said Sunday that they had signed all their targets.
“The technical panel gave us a list of the players they wanted. As such, we are happy that we got what they requested of us. For now, we are satisfied with the players we have signed unless otherwise,” Ndovi said.
Ndovi said the Nomads had assembled a good squad capable of challenging for honours in the forthcoming season.
“We are confident that we will be competitive next season,” he said.
The Nomads won the 2024 Castel Ibongetse Challenge Cup following a 1-0 victory over Hammers at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe last December.
Wanderers will open the 2025 football season with an encounter with TNM Super League champions Silver Strikers in the Charity Shield on March 29 at a venue to be announced.
The team’s coach Bob Mpinganjira has been tasked to win the TNM Super League and defend the Castel Cup.
So far, goalkeeper William Thole is expected to leave the club at the end of his contract this month.
Striker Misheck Botomani is also on the verge of leaving the club as he is on Creck Sporting Club’s radar.
In a related development, Silver CEO Patrick Chimimba said they would wait for a report from the technical panel.
“We will be advised by the technical panel,” he said.
So far, Silver have signed striker Samuel Adeyemi from Hammers, midfielder Festus Duwe from Civil and midfielder Felix Demakude as a free agent.
On their part, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets announced recently that they were done on the player transfer market.
Bullets have signed defenders Chikumbutso Henderson (Hammers), Blessings Joseph (Chitipa United) and Andrew Juvinala from Blue Eagles.
Sports analyst Parry Chinyama said he expected a tough season.
“All the teams have strengthened their squads; as such, we might watch good football. Let us wait and see what the season has in store for us,” he said.
All the teams have regrouped ahead of the 2025 season.
