After a fruitful outing last year, Mangolongondo Night starts its 2025 walk at Kwaharaba Art Gallery and Café in Blantyre on Friday night.
The concert, which is aimed at showcasing local talent and raising funds for a cause, begins this year’s journey with a cast of musicians Annemarie Quinn and John Fire.
They will come face to face with legendary star Boniface Ndamera of Lucky Stars Band, famed for the hit ‘Chinafuna Mbale’.
Ndamera will be getting to the Mangolongondo stage barely a month after he was decorated with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 Maso Awards event.
John Fire said on Thursday that they were excited to be back with Mangolongondo Night.
“We are back in business. We want to identify new talent and present the best of Malawi local sounds that can be exported,” he said.
The singer and guitarist said they wanted to move with the motto ‘From Malawi to The World’.
“In addition, we will go back to doing charity works in assisting victims of natural disasters, sanitation programmes, social issues, among others, using the Mangolongondo platform. On the entertainment front, people should embrace it for high quality music. This is a family platform,” he said.
John Fire said through Mangolongondo Night, they had given Blantyre another avenue for enjoying local music.
“Since we started, we have been able to raise funds and assist Bangwe Health Centre. More excitingly, we managed to secure a donation from well-wishers to help with Mangolongondo operations,” he said.
