One renowned scientist, Isaac Newton, discovered that our planet earth is governed by natural laws. A human being is obligated to follow such laws regardless of one’s social status.
For instance, Isaac Newton discovered that for every force, there is always an equal opposite force. By extension, for every action , there is a corresponding reaction.
This is why in the field of botany, if you plant a maize seed (chimanga), you don’t expect to harvest Indian hemp (Chamba).
The same is true in the political arena, the decisions Malawians make during elections have corresponding consequences for the next five years.
A flashback in 2020, even though the biased court judges made a legal error to annul 2019 presidential elections when there was no evidence of rigging, Malawians were accorded with an opportunity to choose again a leader of their own preference who would rule this country for the next five years.
Regrettably, most Malawians fell in love with Lazarus Chakwera not based on his capability to rule Malawi but based on their emotional gratification.
In fact, at this juncture, gullible Malawians acted like a woman who falls in love with an unknown man not because of his traits and capabilities but because she is emotionally triggered. Simple. She only discovers man’s true colours when they are already in marriage.
It is unfortunate that Malawians were overtaken by charismatic speeches of both Lazarus Chakwera and Saulos Chilima. Didn’t Malawians know that action speaks louder than words?
For instance, in your homestead, if you want to hire a housemaid, will you employ her based on how eloquent she is with the language or based on her experience and capabilities to competently do the job? Obviously, the hiring squad must be blamed for employing an incompetent housemaid.
Likewise, at the time Malawians were hiring Lazarus Chakwera, he had no experience of how the government machinery works. These sentiments were echoed by Atupele Muluzi during the 2020 political debate.
Will you trust an inexperienced driver who is learning how to drive a vehicle to transport your beloved kids to school? Will you blame the driver if all your kids perish in a fatal accident? Assuming the driver survives, will you trust him again with other duties? My fellow Malawians!!!
Are my fellow Malawians surprised that instead of Chakwera leadership taking us to Canaan, a land full of milk and honey, we are now stationed at Bagamoyo wallowing in abject poverty amid scarcity of forex and fuel?
Sadly, all what Chakwera leadership knows best is to borrow money and use it for political campaigns, globe trotting, and personal accumulation of wealth.
Regrettably, Chakwera leadership is competent on how to promote corruption by pardoning corruption convicts such as Uladi Mussa and corruption suspects namely Bakili Muluzi and Saulos Chilima.
Are we surprised that Chakwera government has captured all public institutions including National Assembly, Judiciary, Malawi Police Service (MPS), Malawi Defence Force (MDF) and many others?
In this democratic era, will you expect the whole police officer to dress like a thug and beat a peaceful civil society demonstrator, Sylvester Namiwa, in full view of other MPS and MDF officers?
Are we wondering why Chakwera government has perpetrated political violence across the country and yet no culprit has been held accountable for such atrocities?
In the run up to 2020 fresh presidential elections, I advised the electorate to vet all political campaign promises against ‘Smart’ evaluation technique. Indeed, campaign promises must be ‘specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time bound’.
Unfortunately, five years down the line, why are Malawians eating buffalo beans ( chitedze) instead of enjoying three decent meals a day as promised? Where is free new electricity and water connection? Where is cheap fertilizer? Are the elderly receiving monthly stipend as promised? Why is the inequality gap between the underprivileged and the political elite increasing?
These thought-provoking questions should motivate the electorate to think objectively not just emotionally when choosing a candidate during this year’s elections.
A voter is therefore duly advised to choose leaders that have a proven track record of integrity, leadership and governance. A return to a proven leadership is possible.
