Malawian youngster shines in England

Malawian youngster Jaydon Makhalira impressed on his first start for Sheffield United Under -21 as he scored in a 3-1 loss to Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium on Tuesday.

The teenager winger scored his first goal soon after the break. The Sheffield official website reported yesterday that the Blades had a young side out, with first-year scholar Jaydon Makhalira making a first start at this level, but marking an excellent performance with a goal, lining up alongside a United trialist in midfield.

“It could have been three soon after the break, but Dovydas Sasnauskas made a big block to deny Adu-Adjei, and the deficit was halved soon after when Makhalira ran onto a loose ball inside the box to slot home his first Under 21s goal,” the Sheffield website reported.

Makhalira was not readily available for his comment Wednesday.

The youngster came to the limelight when he signed a one-year contract with Sheffield United Under-14 side in 2021.

He has been at the club since then.

The talented youngster was scouted by Leeds United at the age of 11 but, unfortunately, he did not sign a contract with Leeds after unsuccessful trials.

Makhalira can play on both the right and left flanks.

He can also play as striker.

Malawi has a number of youngsters who are making it big in the diaspora.

Dorchester Town FC striker Shaquille Ngwengwe, Cambridge City midfielder Takondwa Maosa and Henri Kumwenda are some of the players abroad.
