Madalitso Band get visas for Europe tour

The seventh Europe tour for Madalitso Band, the duo of Babatoni player Yobu Maligwa and acoustic guitar star Yosefe Kalekeni is now set as they have now gotten their visas.

The group from the outskirts of Mtandire in Lilongwe leaves the country next month for Europe to sell the country through music.

Co-manager Neil Nayar, who manages their international tours with support from another manager Emmanuel Kamwenje, confirmed Thursday that they have received their visas.

Nayar wrote on his Facebook page that they received their visas for the United Kingdom on Tuesday.

“I was so relieved you cannot believe. The stakes are high as usual. So many dates. After UK we will be in France until September 23rd,” he said.

Nayar, who is also a musician, further said that they will be in Italy from September 2 to 5 2024.

“The first gig is on 13 July in Berlin, Germany. Unbelievable to think that this will be our seventh European tour,” he said.

He maintained that it is not easy to get these opportunities “but with what they have done in other festivals, their name is making its way up.”

Their European tour follows their successful outing in eSwatini last month where they debuted at the MTN Bushfire Festival.

Kamwenje said yesterday that the duo is always ready to serve authentic music and represent Malawi to the fullest.

“Madalitso Band has been to many top festivals and they keep on singing Malawi’s song through their music. There is so much progress in their music since they made a breakthrough at Sauti Za Busara Festival in Tanzania in 2017,” Kamwenje said.

Last year the group also successfully flew Malawi’s flag when it went on a world tour starting off in Europe before debuting in USA where they held over 20 gigs.

Maligwa, who is also a lead vocalist, said they were happy with the steps they have made to this far in raising Malawi’s flag through music.

“We just want to thank our managers Neil Nayar and Emmanuel Kamwenje; they have been there for us and have raised our profile to perform in international stages. We had no idea this would happen but we praise God for all this,” Maligwa said.

He said they will always stay humble in their undertakings and that for them, music remains their treasure.

“We get all what people say, that we are not improving with the trips we make but for us, there is a lot that has changed, we are not where we were and our dressing is just an identity we thought we should take and that is simplicity,” Maligwa said.

He said they have to spend more money in some of their tours and that they continue to learn.

Madalitso Band has albums such as Fungo La Nyemba and Wasalala to their credit.
