Ma Blacks set for ‘Kuimba 13’

Reggae group Black Missionaries better known as Ma Blacks said yesterday they are working on Kuimba 13 album with four singles and two music videos expected to be released later this month. The group’s lead vocalist Anjiru Fumulani said they were set to release new songs.

“This is long overdue, we would have released new songs by now but due to other challenges, we had to wait. There are a number of things we are working on at the moment and it includes aligning ourselves to the digital landscape,” Anjiru said.

He said all their previous Kuimba albums will be available on online platforms including Spotify as well as the new songs. “We had some challenges so; the previous Kuimba albums could not be accessed online. But now everything is in black and white,” Anjiru said.

He added: “We are taking our time but Kuimba 13 is coming without fail. We have four songs as I have indicated and then two videos and before we release the album, we will also drop other singles.”

The group has indicated that it will perform some of the new songs at Club 24/7 in Blantyre on April 20 2025 in a fundraising show organised by Southern Region Press Club in conjunction with Club 24/7. Meanwhile, the band will this weekend perform in Mangochi and Chikwawa. The first show is at Kukhala Motel, Nchalo, Chikwawa tonight where Black Missionaries will perform alongside Anthony Makondetsa, Moda Fumulani, Khozie Masimbe and Yanjanani Chumbu.

Tomorrow, Black Missionaries alongside Makondetsa and other Chileka siblings, share the stage with Gibo Pearson, Santy, Nyanesi, Joe Gwaladi, Giddes Chalamanda, Che Malamba, Alleluya Band and Paul Subiri at Zitherepano in Mangochi.

The concert is aimed at celebrating the birthday of Subiri. “We are ready for the concerts. We have a number of concerts starting this weekend and we hope to share with the people some of the new songs,” Anjiru said.

The reggae group is also billed to perform at The Springs Mega Show organised by Gunde Media at The Springs Club in Area 47 in Lilongwe on May 3 2025. Jack Gunde of Gunde Media said they want to use the show to disseminating messages of love and peace ahead of the General Elections in September.

“We feel shows can play a crucial role in uniting people despite our different affiliations. So, this is why we are hosting The Springs Mega Show,” Gunde said.

Apart from Black Missionaries, Makondetsa and other Chileka siblings, the show is also expected to feature Tay Grin, Lulu, Phyzix, Chizmo Sting, Veda Njuchi and Moses Makawa and Yaziyazi Band.
