Malawi Women’s National Football Team Coach Lovemore Fazili has said there are several positives drawn from the two matches against South Africa’s Banyana Banyana.
The Scorchers lost 2-1 to South Africa at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday, just three days after they suffered a 3-0 defeat at UJ Soweto Stadium.
“We have learnt a lot from the two matches. The matches have helped us to assess our weaknesses and strengths,” Fazili said.
Fazili said after the two friendly matches, the team would be ready when they face Angola in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) qualifiers in October.
“I am very happy with the local-based players and foreign country-based players. I am sure that when we meet Angola, we will have a positive result,” Fazili said.

During the two matches, Fazili was without Tabitha Chawinga, Temwa Chawinga, Rose Kabzere and Faith Chimzimu.
He, however, had experienced players such as Chimwemwe Madise, Sabina Thom, Vanessa Chikupira and Bernadettar Mkandawire.
Fazili said he had ample time to work on shortcomings ahead of the Wafcon qualifiers.
“We are going to rectify the weaknesses, especially on how to deal with set pieces. We have conceded a lot of goals from set pieces,” he said.
The Scorchers have played four friendly matches in two months as part of preparations for the Angola matches.
They played two friendly matches against Zambia in February.
Malawi lost 2-0 to Zambia in the first match but managed to beat the Copper Queens 3-2 in the second match.
Sports analyst Parry Chinyama believes the team is on the right track.
“I am sure the technical panel has identified all the weak areas. The future looks good,” he said.
The Scorchers progressed to the second round of Wafcon qualifiers after Congo Brazzaville pulled out.
The overall winner between Malawi and Angola will qualify for the Wafcon finals.
Malawi and Angola have never qualified for the finals.
