Local rival legends set for international Legends Cup

The local football fraternity will relieve the past when former players for three big teams on the domestic scene and Zimbabwe’s Dynamos Legends battle for supremacy in the Premier Bet International Legends Cup.

The two-day cup kicks off today at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre as the four sides turn back the hands of time.

Legends for three Malawian sides namely FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, Mighty Wanderers and Silver Strikes will take on Dynamos of Zimbabwe.

In the first semifinal, Silver will face Dynamos before Bullets and Wanderers meet.

The winners will meet in the final while the losers will battle for bronze.

The competition’s organising committee chairperson Kevin Moyo confirmed that Dynamos loaded with their former stars had arrived in the country for the showdown.

“It is a milestone. It involves top football brands in Malawi and the best football team in the history of Zimbabwe football. We are hoping for the best as all teams are now in Blantyre ready to rumble.

“Tickets are still on the market for both the semi-finals and finals. We urge fans to come and watch the games as they are played once in a calendar season. This year we have a number of generations taking part in the games,” Moyo said.

Meanwhile, Silver Legends have the likes of Sibusiso Padambo, Peter Pindani, Hellings Mwakasungula, Peter Mgangira and Green Harawa.

Pindani said they were ready to make their debut memorable.

“This will be our first time but we have no doubt of making it to the final. It has been a long time since we played at Kamuzu Stadium and for sure we will remind fans how it was in the past,” Pindani said.

Interestingly, Wanderers and Bullets legends will revive their rivalry, with Nomads legend Joseph Kamwendo and his Bullets counterpart Fischer Kondowe exchanging verbal tirades.

Kamwendo said they wanted to repeat last year’s exploits when they beat Bullets to lift the cup.

“I think it will be an interesting derby because despite that we retired but we still have memories of working hard when meeting Bullets. We want to defend the cup,” Kamwendo said.

However, Kondowe said they were set to revenge to stop Wanderers dominating the cup.

“When meeting our neighbours there is nothing like a social game. We will play with our lungs out because we are going into the field of play to get revenge,” Kondowe said.
