Renowned writer Lawrence Kadzitche, who is the author of Katakwe series, said on Sunday he is ready to serve Malawi Writers Union (Mawu) and contribute to its growth. His remarks follow his appointment as Mawu’s board chairperson.
“Well, I feel not only honoured to be appointed board chairperson but also recognised as someone who has made valuable contribution to writing in Malawi over the years,” Kadzitche said.
He further said this symbolises the importance of perseverance and focus when doing anything “you have passion in.” The writers’ body’s president Shadreck Chikoti has since described Kadzitche’s appointment as board chairperson as huge and that they were looking forward to tap from his wealth of experience.
“We are excited to have him and we are confident that his wealth of experience, coupled with his deep understanding of Malawi’s literary and cultural landscape, will greatly benefit Mawu and contribute to the growth and success of our union,” Chikoti said.
He said Kadzitche’s role will involve providing strategic direction and supporting the implementation of Mawu’s programmes and initiatives. “His leadership will be instrumental in strengthening Mawu’s impact, ensuring financial sustainability and fostering partnerships with key stakeholders in the literary and creative industries,” Chikoti said.
Kadzitche comes into the limelight having published a new book titled Bwantasa ndi Anzake. His other books include Katakwe Kutauni, Katakwe Zaka 10, Katakwe Kumudzi, Katakwe Mdzina la Yesu, Slay Queen and In the Spirit of Ines Tebulo.
