Renowned actors Flora Suya and Joyce Mhango Chavula, who are also filmmakers, have been cast in a film titled Kamdothi: Of Dust and Longing, set to be released soon.
The movie’s director Daniel da Trindade announced on Tuesday that they have made significant progress with the film, which will soon be available on the market.
“This film promises to offer a unique and special experience for movie lovers in the country,” Trindade said.
He added that the film tells a Malawian story in a way that has never been done before.
“The film aims to demonstrate that everyone has a place in society, regardless of their background or circumstances. It is based on a traditional Malawian folktale about a child who melts when exposed to rain,” Trindade explained.
He stressed the importance of documenting the country’s cultural narratives through film.
“The scene featuring Flora and Joyce captures the pivotal moment that ‘Kamdothi’ was created, forming the core of our story,” Trindade added.
Suya, who portrays Nyembezi, expressed enthusiasm about her role in the movie.
“Nyembezi is a completely new character for me, and that’s what excites me. It is a role that challenges me beyond my comfort zone,” she said.
Suya hopes that viewers will gain empathy for others facing different challenges in life through this film.
Meanwhile, a trailer for the film will soon be released on YouTube.
