Presidential hopeful Dalitso Kabambe has trashed assertions of him being a plant of some political masters in the UTM party.
Dr. Kabambe has declared his interest for presidency at UTM, which fell vacant on June, 10 after the death of party president Saulos Chilima in a military plane crash in Chikangawa Forest.
He left the DPP and later joined the UTM sparking speculation about his intention.
However, after being silent on the matter, Kabambe has spoken saying he is a man of himself … and a person with great respect for late Chilima.
“To begin with, why would anyone even think I am a plant? Honestly I dont understand this thought-process because I came fully and wholeheartedly to the UTM.
“As a matter of fact; I joined the UTM because of its transformative agenda and the party’s passion to invest in youth as stewards of this nation,” he said.
Kabambe made the remarks on the sidelines of a public lecture at DMI University in Mangochi which he addressed students on prospects of a prosperous Malawi.
He said; a prosperous Malawi was possible if the country took deliberate efforts to invest in youth development and education in particular.
During his public lecture, the former RBM Governor provoked the audience with his district-by-district industrialization model which he argues would be the backbone of development when each district would begin to manage its own funding.
On its part, DMI University has expressed delight with the public lecture, which Dr. Benedicto Okomaatani Malunga its Deputy Vice Chancellor noted had equipped the students with the much-needed information.
As former Governor of the Reserve Bank, Dr. Kabambe played a crucial role in providing strategic direction and leadership, ensuring accurate economic advice to the government, and effectively managing fuel prices to avoid inflation.
With a wealth of experience in economics and public service, Dr. Kabambe has held various positions in the Malawi Government Economic Service, including Principal Economist, Chief Economist, and Budget Director.
He also served as Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Dr. Kabambe’s academic credentials include a PhD and Master’s Degree in Development Economics from Imperial College – University of London, and a BSc Degree from the University of Malawi.
