Mozambique side UD Songo and Malawi National Football Team captain John Banda have parted ways following the expiry of his contract.
Songo announced the departure of the Malawian, and other players, on their official Facebook page.
“Each of you has left your mark on this club, not only with your talent on the field, but also with dedication, race and team spirit. They fought, smiled, vibrated and gave their all, honouring this shield in every game,” the statement on Songo’s website reads.
But Banda, who confirmed his departure from the club, was reluctant to comment on the matter.
“At the moment, I am not ready to talk on the matter,” Banda, who played for the club for five years, said.
This means Banda, who is a police officer, would return to his parent club Blue Eagles.
Eagles Chief Administration Officer Muhammed Ali said Banda was back at the club.
However, Ali said, two Mozambique teams have already expressed interest in signing the veteran midfielder.
“We have already received offers from clubs in Mozambique. Currently, we are in talks with the clubs,” he said.
Apart from Banda, the club also parted ways with midfielder Jimmy Ukonde and Fopa.
Banda joined Songo in 2019 after playing for another Mozambique side Ferroviario de Nampula for two years.
While at Songo, he helped the club win the 2022 Mocambola League.
Following the departure of Banda, Songo have one Malawian striker Richard Mbulu, who has just joined the club after leaving Costa do Sol.
Another Malawian midfielder Yamikani Chester is also linked with a move to the club.
Defender Miracle Gabeya has also left the club following the expiry of his one year contract.
