The Malawi National Football Team trio of Lawrence Chaziya, Patrick Mwaungulu and Lanjesi Nkhoma are set to travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for medical tests with TP Mazembe, one of Africa’s leading clubs.
This development means TNM Super League defending champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets will be without their key players Mwaungulu and Nkhoma in their upcoming match against Civil Service United at Kamuzu Stadium.
Similarly, Chaziya will miss Mighty Mukuru Wanderers’ fixture against Moyale.
Mazembe’s representative in Malawi, Felix Ngamanya Sapao, confirmed that all travel arrangements, including visas and air tickets, have been finalised.
“The clubs and players have received their visas and air tickets,” he Sapao said.
Bullets acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Albert Chigoga affirmed that logistics for Mwaungulu and Nkhoma’s travel have been completed.
“Subject to finalisation of travel arrangements, the players will depart either this weekend or early next week,” Chigoga added.
Wanderers CEO Panganeni Ndovi echoed the sentiments, saying the club is awaiting finalisation of the flight schedule, planned for Saturday or Sunday.
“We wish Chaziya the best as he travels to the DRC,” Ndovi said.
The trio was initially scheduled to travel in May but TP Mazembe postponed the medical tests due to their medical staff’s holiday following the off-season break.
The club has since resumed preparations for the new season.
Mwaungulu currently leads Bullets as their top scorer in all competitions, with two goals in the FDH Bank Cup and five in the Super League.
Chaziya and Nkhoma are also pivotal players in their respective teams, regularly featuring in the starting line-up.
