Malawi National Football Team players will pocket K1.5 million each from the two back-to-back wins over Comoros in the African Nations Championship qualifiers.
The Flames completed a double over Comoros over two legs in which they managed 2-0 wins on March 2 and 8 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
Malawi went through to the second round with a 4-0 aggregate score and will take on South Africa who booted out Egypt.
The qualification saw Football Association of Malawi (Fam) doubling game bonuses for the players from K500,000 to K1 million.

Fam First Vice President Madalitso Kuyera said the players will receive K500,000 each for winning the first match and K1 million each for prevailing in the second.
“This is meant to motivate the players for the match against South Africa in May. This is also a way of motivating the players ahead of the 2026 Fifa World Cup matches against Namibia and Tunisia next week. Immediately after beating Comoros on March 8, I phoned our president [Fleetwood Haiya], who was in Egypt for a Caf meeting, to tell him that our team had won.
“This great news excited him quite a lot and he directed that we double the players’ bonuses. So as Fam, we are very happy with the boys’ performance against Comoros and we are expecting them to continue working hard and make the nation proud,” Kuyera said.
Football pundit Parry Chinyama commended Fam for the move, saying it will challenge the players to continue producing good results.
“Fam should just consider revisiting Flames bonuses upwards. Players need to receive better packages when representing the nation, just as is the case with their counterparts elsewhere. Our players receive peanuts compared to what their counterparts elsewhere get. This is not the first time for Fam to double players’ bonuses for a win.
“They have done it before. This is a clear indication that our players deserve more because playing for the national team is a very big task. These are players who carry the hopes of the whole nation on their shoulders. So let us give them more money if we want better results,” Chinyama said.
The Flames’ attention has now shifted to the World Cup qualifiers which will see them hosting Namibia on Thursday before travelling to Tunis for a showdown against Tunisia on March 24.
