SUPPORT—Chirwa
First Capital Bank (FCB) has reaffirmed its support for youth football by pledging to continue bankrolling the Under-19 Katswiri National League.
FCB Head of Marketing and Communication Twikale Chirwa said this after the firm, partners, Football Association of Malawi (Fam) and National Youth Football Association (NYFA) successfully staged the finals of the developmental competition at Luwinga Inclusive Academy in Mzuzu.
“FCB is committed to enhancing Malawi’s socio-economic fabric through the sponsorship of youth football to give young people an opportunity to showcase their talent and also selection to elite league and national teams.
“As such, we will continue to sponsor the under-19 league, which is one of the longest sponsorships in history, to contribute to football development in Malawi,” he said.
Chirwa said FCB was pleased with strides that have been made since the league was launched in the country.
“The success of the league is that the bulk of players in the elite league and national team were discovered from this league and they include Peter Banda, Gerald Phiri Jnr and Francisco Madinga,” he said.
NYFA Chairperson Tiyenkhu Chavula described FCB’s support as the bedrock of football in the country.
“If you look at the data of most Super League teams, you will appreciate that they went through this league,” he said.
During the national finals, North Select emerged champions, with South Select finishing second while Central Select 1 ended on third position.
